Overdoing It

Have you ever cracked a ceramic toilet by tightening that screw just one more turn? Or perhaps lost a sale by not shutting up? Or selected a wrong answer by reading more into the test question than is there? Perhaps you have injured yourself by just trying to get in that one perfect workout that will make you faster and stronger right now.

In my running career I have seriously targeted four races so far. I am now four for four in being injured during training three to six weeks before my most important races. Other than that I have not injured myself at all. Do I detect a pattern here?

And yes I have cracked a ceramic toilet as well as other materials by tightening them just that one bit too much. If my wife ever dumps me it will be because I do not turn my socks right side up when I throw them in the wash and because I break things by overtightening them. She's lasted this long so I think I am safe.

Follow the link to the very short story Overdoing It by Anton Chekhov for a literary approach to the subject.

Taper, taper, taper. Tell me you are tapering three to four weeks out and not pushing it. If you are not I would come over and smack you, but the whole Dr. Banner thing causes me to rethink that action.
