Speed Kills

I did two loops of the Kemah Bride in 36:20, a comfortable pace with an average HR of 142. I would have done three loops for the first time, but I was pulled up short by a sore hamstring. This strain is on the inner side hamstring muscle, which is a new one to feel strained for me.

Seems like I should have rested a little more from my Tuesday speedwork session. I was obviously not fully recovered. The problem with Tuesday is that I pushed it to the limit in spite of doing little speed training since May. My VDOT recommended 800 m interval pace is more like 3:40 than 3:20.

Once again I have proven that running under control, consistently and disciplined is as important as anything.

But then again, when one feels like one can really fly, it is hard to hold back. Best thing is to stay away from the track. I banish myself from the track until 2007.

Rest, ice, compression and elevation will have me back to 100% soon as it is not too bad a strain. Been there and done that.

Going to do a half marathon on September 24, will take it easy until then.
