At 8:40 am this morning, I went out for a 3.5 mile run on the early portions of tomorrows 10 miler. The weather conditions were favorable, temperatures in the high 60's, humidity in the low 70's and a slight breeze here or there. If the weather is like this, the main thing to watch out for is the sun, especially the later we finish. I don't recall much shade at all in most of the race course, especially the final 4 miles. So I'll be wearing my red hat tomorrow.
For me I have two keys to victory tomorrow
1) Do not leave my race on the course in the first mile or the first five miles. I may even try to hold back to the 10k point.
2) Positive mental focus and visualizations. Be mentally tough along the 1.8 mile stretch along Space Center Blvd, starting in mile six and ending in mile eight. Whatever it takes for positive visualization. I am like a Nolan Ryan fastball, straight and true or a laser beam travelling at the speed of light. I love straightaways, the shortest and fastest race is straight.
No excuses.
