Customer Service Announcement

You have reached a blog free zone effective January 18 until on or before February 1. Management will be out of pocket until that time. We regret any inconvenience or withdrawal symptoms this may cause you, but accept no liability. You may console your self with some music or running therapy. For music we recommend Grateful Dead's "I Know You Rider (going to miss me when I'm gone)" or for more modern taste, Mike Doughty's "Looking at the World from the Bottom of the Well", which we will post for your pleasure. We now return you to a regular post.

Running highlights of the week so far.

+ Registered for the Park to Park 5 miler (Feb 10).
+ Mailed registration for the Buffalo Wallow XC 6K (Feb 3).
+ No running. Lot's of resting, icing, stretching. Feeling better and better.

Learning of the day:

Prior to the marathon I stretched my right side aggressively for two weeks due to my right achilles strain. I did not do equivalent stretching on my left side. During the marathon, my left side cramped more often and more violently than my right side. During recovery, my left side has been slower to recover than my right side. If one has cramping and muscle soreness issues when running, one might find that stretching a lot leading into an important race may help mitigate issues.

Quotes of the day are from Douglas MacArthur:

"It was close; but that's the way it is in war. You win or lose, live or die — and the difference is just an eyelash."

"There is no substitute for victory."

"Only those are fit to live who are not afraid of dying. "

and finally

"I shall return!"
