If Lance Can Run Then Maybe I Can Cycle

Today was cycling day and the weather was perfect for a Sunday morning ride.

Bike workout #2 (abbreviated due to flat tire)
14.7 miles
51 minutes
17 mph
143 HR

I biked to the Seabrook trails this morning. At the parking area, I ran (I mean cycled) into Debbie Rudisill and a couple of guys that are training for Boston with her. She is running really well (3:01:01 PR at Houston) and will do us proud in Boston. She mentioned that a year ago she had Achilles tendonitis. It perked me up that she is running so well, there is life after injury.

Jon should be a big Debbie fan since she is a fellow Nittany Lion.

I biked over the Kemah bridge and was just thinking that I could like cycling a lot as I headed out of Kemah toward Bacliff on 146. Then my rear tire deflated. I had no tire patch kit nor spare inner tube. There were no domestiques to give me their bikes. Bummer. But I did have a cell phone, so I called my manager who came with the trusty Subaru.

Seems that my rear innertube had a pin hole leak. So I relearned how to change a bike tire adn patched up the old innertube to use as a spare. I have a little repair kit to carry along on rides now. So I took another ride in the afternoon.

Bike workout #3
21.8 miles
1:13
18 mph
150 HR

One difference between running and cycling is that I never had to wait for a train while running. I also don't have parts falling of me when I run. One learning from the evening ride is not to ride on the road into the sun. The cars may be blinded and won't see you.

Good workout overall. Maybe I'll have a look at the Gator Ride in Baytown next Saturday. A couple of the routes go over Fred Hartman Bridge and the Lynchburg Ferry.

I'm doing the 62-miler at the Gator Ride on Saturday, hoping to average 15-16 mph. You're welcome to ride with me! :)
