No I have not become an ultrarunner. I am a runner who cycles and claim a bike distance PR today at the Gator Ride in Baytown.
Sarah and I negotiated the course in just over 4 hours in the saddle, averaging about 15.2mph. We did stop shortly at all five rest stops along the way for fuel. I certainly chowed down and hydrated today. Something I will do more of in my long runs in the future. I don't know how to carry a cooler while running however.
Cycling is certainly more complicated than running. Everything is a bit more when cycling. Wind is either more annoying and draining or more helpful and exhilarating. Road surface changes are more noticeable and debris is more dangerous. Expenses are more. There are more traffic issues to deal with and more shouts of "car back" and "on your left". There are more things to see, I saw a llama and some South African Boar goats at a couple of farms along the ride.
It was a good time. Challenging but no marathon.
Coach Steeeve: Sarah is a cyclist. She did not do any drafting and looked pretty solid in the saddle to me. She'll be ready for her half Ironman cycle.
Erin: Wore the ND Irish socks from Sockguy for the first time. Thanks for the tip. (They have UM ones too Steeve).
Bad news is that my 3 mile run on the pavement irritated my injury, so it looks like I'll running slow, short, soft distances for some more weeks. Good news is I have learned how to cycle again.

Joe, you're too kind. You forgot to mention how you could have left me in your dust at any given point during the 62 miles. :)
Thanks for riding with me, it was nice to have a friend along -- usually I'm riding alone! Congrats on the distance PR. I'll be doing it again in a couple weeks...
Young Fella,
Well done on the distance PR. Metric centuries rock!
I got a way cool Meeechigan cycling jersey for Christmas but have been on the road yet this year :-(
