You Can't Beat These Odds

Single guys, listen to me. Join a Running Club. Where else can you spend the morning tied to six women? Nowhere legal, that's for sure. OK, I'm spoken for, it's true, but I still can provide tips for all you single men out there.

This morning was the Bayou City Classic 10k in downtown Houston and what a fine event it was. I participated in a centipede sponsored by the Bay Area Running Club, which entails having a minimum of six runners in costume attached to each other. In our case, there were seven of us and our costumes were medical. We were celebrating the recent hospital visit of one of our runners, who gave birth to a baby boy just three weeks ago. So I had the great pleasure of going 10k with Veronica, Lee Anne, Jo Ann, Michelle, Cathy and Sandy. When did I get so lucky? Where were all these women when I was a single guy starting out in New Jersey? We had a blast, even before the free beer.

How fast did we run....not fast at all....and there were several walk breaks. Last year the BARC team did the 10k in 5o minutes, but we did not put a team together to go for that pace this year.
