US Woman Wins 10k Bronze at World Championships

In the heat of Osaka, Kara Goucher, former University of Colorado star, picked up the first American medal in a 10k women's major championship event in 15 years. Kara is coached by Alberto Salazer, who almost died in June from a heart attack.

There is a very fine article, 'It's Just Running', by Tim Layden on Sports Illustrated online.

There is also a nice picture of Kara crossing the finish line on the IAAF website here.

Deena Kastor came in 6th place so the US had two women in the top ten.

In local news, I cycled 50 miles with the Space City Cycling Club this morning, averaging 19.2mph. No hangover thanks to 3 Ibuprofens, 2 aspirin and lots of Sierra Mist Free & water between the end of the Pub Crawl at 5 pm last night and the start of the ride at 7:30 am. However, I was pretty sore this morning. I ran the 2 mile leg of the Pub Crawl pretty hard. Obviously running uses some different muscles than cycling, they told me so this morning. My Achilles seems no worse for the wear though :) Maybe I'll start running again real soon...

Maybe your achilles needs you to drink Shiner Bock etc. every time you run... If your that relaxed, maybe your muscles and tendons are too... Glad it may be getting better. You're lookin' good.
