Be Patient, Be Dedicated, Be Consistent

It is three years since I decided to be an athlete. Over that time, I have found that noticeable improvement or change comes in steps. One plateaus for some months and all of a sudden there is some step change. The most recent step change happened around TIR weekend. This step change has been in my weight and my resting heart rate. My weight has been between 195 and 200 for the past two weeks, about five pounds below my weight over the six previous months. And this week I noticed that my heart rate when just siting during the middle of the day was in the high 40s. I never saw that before. So I measured my morning heart rate today and it was 40. That's about 5 beats per minute below where it was three months ago.

I don't know what it all means, but certainly our bodies do change. So if you are working out and don't see any improvement, don't despair. Be patient, be dedicated and be consistent and it will happen.

I am captain of the BARC water stop this weekend at Seabrook Lucky Trails. I bought the Guinness and the Irish Mist today, the cooler will be well stocked....oh yeah there will be water and Gatorade for the runners. Well it is St Patrick's Day on Monday.

Of course, resting heart rate of zero is no good.
