It is unlikely that you have a round white "5k" sticker on the back of your car. The Rodney Dangerfield of road running, the ubiquitous 5k gets no respect. Like fast food joints, 5ks are everywhere, but are a lot better for you. Fellow Running Bloggers, it is time for a change. Let us make the case for the 5k.
1) Post race food is just as good and you get it a lot quicker.
2) You can run a local 5k almost every weekend.
3) You get to keep the pedal to the metal by keeping that stride rate HIGH.
4) You don't need to train a bizillion miles a week.
5) You can't run a marathon without running a 5k (at least 8 of them).
6) You don't need to wear a fuel belt.
7) You can run them year around. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays runners from the swift completion of their appointed 5ks.
8) The whole family can do a 5k with a little preparation.
So vote for the 5k by participating in the longest running 5k race in the Bay Area. That is Saturday's 30th running of the Lunar Rendezvous 5k at 7:30 am at Space Center Houston. The course is flat for a fire ant and hot enough to scramble your eggs when you finish. Now maybe you don't like the 5k because you are always getting another cotton T-shirt. Not this 5k. Technical T baby. Wicking wicked.

Lots of races state they have XXL shirts.... but sledom do they ever have any when I get there.
Whats the chances 'someone important' will hold a 2X shirt back for me?
I'll check on it Bill.
Dang, I thought it might be your running. Don't go to any troubles, please. There's an outside cahnce I will not be going... but again a 2x shirt would be a sweet deal worth driving for!
Will they have enough shirts left for slackers like me who didn't register before online registration closed?
I might make it down there. The body part which shall not be named was a little tight yesterday, but the whole leg it's attached to is feeling a bit out of whack, so hopefully I just need some good stretching...
