I joined the masters swimming group at my athletic club. About a fifty minute session primarly of fast/easy intervals covering 2000 yards today and it was tough. One can get ones heart rate up there while swimming. I am sooo slow, I need fins, gills, scales, the works.
As for the diet, I did not eat fish, meat or dairy and cut back on all fat intake. No eggs. No milk, no cheese, no yogurt, unless they were soy based. I cut way back on oil and only put balsalmic vinegar on my salads. I even had a meatless, cheeseless pizza at Boondoggles. I switched to black coffee and used oat, almond and soy milk with my granola. In the seven months I had no meat, eggs at all, and fish a handful of times on airplanes. I probably had a little dairy sneak into foods when eating out.
Fortunately I like salads and beans. Alcohol is certainly allowed. I sometimes added rice or hemp based protein into drinks off and on.
No wonder I was a record low weight at the doctors this week.
Life is an experiment. I've learned one really can do something different....well up to a point. I was not a runner. I was not a cyclist. I was not a veggie. I am not a swimmer, but I will be.

Awesome, Joe! Truly awesome! Will you continue this lifestyle?
impressive, but I couldn't do it. don't have the willpower or the desire I guess. I am a meat and dairy person all the way!
I'm thrilled that you found success, but I felt hungry just reading your diet plan! Fish and yogurt and staples for me...I even just bought my own yogurt maker! (you can do soy, also).
