Plan B

Plan A did not make it very long. Since my leg was in pain for three days after a measily 2 mile run last Friday, I am not able to run consisently at the moment. So Plan B is no running and 12 weeks of (weighted) eccentric calf stretches. Today was day 2. Since conservative treatment has not worked, it is time to get more aggressive. It is not a surprise that I pick the aggressive method. I'm not really into waiting around and watching the grass grow.

Since I don't have much on my list for the rest of the year, it is time to start thinking about goals for 2009. In 2008 I wanted to bike the MS150 and Triple Bypass events and I wanted to run again and to be in condition for a Houston half marathon in 2009. Goals not fully met, although I must admit it was nice to set a 5 mile PR, a 10k PR, get some relay and centipede hardware and, of course, complete TIR. So the year was by no means a running wash out.

For 2009 I am thinking of the following goals so far (1) Bike a 100 miler in each month with one completed in 5 hours or less, (2) Do a triathlon event, and (3) Compete in a masters swim meet. I'd rather not set any pure running goals for 2009, while I will persevere I am actually pretty pessimistic about the likelihood of running consisently in 2009.

On the personal front, we may set a goal to move in 2009, at least put the house on the market in the Spring and see what happens. I am tired of my hour commute each way. The things keeping us in Clear Lake are mainly my running, cycling, and related clubs/friendships. However, since I am not running, I only see my friends at races anyways, which are easier to commute to than daily work. The cycling is a bit more problematic since I am pretty comfortable with the Bike Barn group and am not too keen on cycling in the center of Houston.

Riders in Houston drive way out west or north anyway to get long rides in, so you can always drive down to CL for weekend mileage. For weekdays, you'll always have spin class and the Froot Loop.

Feel like a hamster from circling yet?
