No need for speed

Well my pre-race warm-up run this morning was pure crap. 2.5 miles in 25 minutes with an average HR of 139 which is 5 to 10 beats higher than when I was at peak condition in mid December. At least my knee seems OK. It should be, it has not done a damn thing this year.

I am not into running my immune system into the ground tomorrow less than a week after running a 99-100 degree temperature and after basically no training for the last two and one half weeks. I want to enjoy my run, soak up the experience and atmosphere of Houston. So as of this moment I have no intention of racing tomorrow, just jogging along for fun. My 2:53 at the 30k proved to me that if I am totally healthy and primed I could nail a 4:20 or better marathon. But not tomorrow. My goal is to glide across the finish line after 26.2 without having gotten into the anaerobic zone at all. Can I do this? I don't know, nothing is harder than holding back.

I am a proud penguin who will be out there constantly striving to go slower.

PS Happy birthday Christine, you go girl domer, volunteer, teacher, linguist, theorist, friend
