A nice thing about being a novice runner is catching personal record fever. Having participated in timed races only for the last 11 months, I've put up some numbers that are going down. With consistent training and good health it is easy for a novice to do. Of course it is pointless, but how many people are playing computer games right now just to get a record score? At least I get some fitness out of my number chasing.
The assault begins Saturday when I will set a 5 mile PR in the Park to Park race. I posted 47 minutes flat in the On the Run 5 miler last May. The only question is how low will it go? Given my current fitness level, I'll be leaving some on the table for my next 5 miler after Saturday. But the number is going down. Guaranteed. I'll be trash talking to myself all week. What foolishness, get a grip Joe.
The next PR will be in the 10k at the Rodeo Run on February 25. After that I will be able to say I set all my PRs in my 50s. Forgive me if I omit revealing that I ran only one timed road race in my life prior to my 50th birthday, or at least that is what my memory tells me (disclaimer: memory may be unreliable, use at own risk). More foolishness. Just run.
I will be catching Olympic fever this weekend, especially alpine skiing and speed skating. Keep an eye out for the University of Colorado's Jeremy Bloom as he wins a medal in freestyle skiing. He used his freestyle athleticism to return punts for the Buffaloes and he was exciting.
For the record, ran an easy 5k at lunch on Monday (32:40, 136HR) and 3 miles (26:49, 144HR) on Wednesday morning.

I love the Olympics but I'm going to miss the second week because I'll be in Patagonia. Somehow I think I'll survive. ;)
Was surfing the net loking for some clear skies initiative and I came upon your site and I was impressed by the quality of content you have. Keep up the awesome job. I will be bookmarking you right now.
