Back from Motown

Returned safely with more hardware in hand. I received an e-mail from the Martian race organizers stating the top 5 in each 5 year age grouping qualified for an award. Michiganders are generous. So I picked up my plaque for being number 5 in the 10k in my age group at the Ann Arbor running store today. It says "Fastest Earthling" on it. I was not even in the top 100 overall so I'll settle for "Not the Slowest Earthling". That would be more appropriate. Two plaques in two months, my head is swelling. Now let's find a race that gives out awards to the fastest runner age 50, between 210 and 218 pounds, no shorter than 6 foot 3 inches, with size 14 shoes. I'll register.

I have gotten in a couple of runs since Saturdays race, one on the treadmill. The main reason I was in Michigan for the weekend was not to race, but to visit my daughter, who is a graduate student at UM. She also is a member of the University Band and we enjoyed her wind ensemble concert on Sunday afternoon in their fine auditorium. It is tough to get used to this as I was raised in an Ohio State family and have all my allegience to Notre Dame. I did take one of my runs along the UM stadium, so called 'Big House'. Looks more like a 'Big Sinkhole'. It certainly doesn't rise to the heavens under the watchful eyes of Touchdown Jesus, like ND Stadium. OK no more shots at UM since they are providing my daughter a stipend. Go Blue!

A lot of HRB's are looking to set 5k PRs this Saturday in Bellaire. Me too.

Hey Joe, I was in the Marching 100 at IU. It was a lot of fun - great way to meet a lot of people as a freshman at a big university. Also great exercise! I definitely remember our road trip to Michigan and going through the tunnel onto the field. It was so loud in there when the drums did their cadence. Definitely a great place to go. And the leaves there in October are beautiful.

No goodies other than a little plaque. A coupon for a pint of IPA would have been nice.

I'm jealous! Congrats on your hardware. I'm still hardware less and will probably stay that way. Oh well. Good luck on Saturday. I'm going to try a P.R. myself up here in The Woodlands.

Should I tell your sister that you own a Michigan shirt? She may disown you... For the record, even though UM gives me money, ND's campus is far superior.
