Texas Runner Shines at 50m Ultra

It's rare that I get to scoop Jon Walk in publicizing a Texan's running success. But when the master blogger is away in the frozen tundra, there sometimes is a small opening. I noticed on The BARCer, which I got to through Jon's link to the latest issue, that the Bay Area Running Club prez, Mark Henderson, set a PR and came in 2nd place in the Ruth Anderson 50m race in California last weekend. Mark finished in a speedy 6 hours and 32 minutes, which is a pace of 7:50 per mile.

Scott Dunlap's excellent blog , where it appears you can learn anything you ever wanted to know about ultrarunning, has a detailed report on the race, including this picture of Mark, who picked up the nickname "Texas" for some odd reason. Scott himself finished first in the 50k portion of the race only five days after completing the Boston Marathon. Congratulations to Scott, Mark and all the other Ruth Anderson 50k/50m/100k runners. I remain awestruck by such "ultra" accomplishments.
