Ouch

Speedwork. Muscle pull. Oh no. I guess I should do a better job warming up. Sigh. The speedwork training at the track last night may be a workout I'll regret. We did a total of nine 200 meter repeats with a couple of 400 meter runs thrown in between. I thought that I would do the 200 meter runs in over 50 seconds and the 400 meters in about 1:45. I felt pretty good so I ran faster, 46 seconds for most of the 200 meter runs and 42 seconds for the last.

Unfortunately, about two thirds the way through the workout I felt a pull or cramp on one of my adductor muscles on the back inner thigh. Could be a groin pull. I slowed it down some, except for the last 200, and I shortened my stride. As soon as the workout was over, I immediately went into massage, ice and ibuprofen mode. Such a strain can take a while to go away. We'll see in a few days, but I may be doing some pool running this week. I hope to run the race in League City on Saturday, but will not risk it if I think it will get in the way of being ready for my 10k on Memorial Day.

I guess I have had enough of speedwork for a while. This is what happens when one gets too greedy. Filled with the euphoria of feeling faster and stronger, one pushes it to the limit, and reality knocks you back to earth. So what. It will heal, I will run, I will run far, and I will run faster. Hah. Reality is what you make it.

Hope the injury isn't serious. Wishing you fast healing. Bill

Joe- I did some calculations. Based on 46 sec 200s, it seems your mile pace was about 6:10. Maybe too fast? Did you have a target per/mile pace in mind?
