One can here beautiful Irish music like this in many pubs in Ireland. This song was written by an Irish emigrant, born in 1850, who left his sweetheart behind in Ireland to come to the US. Before he raised enough money to bring her to him, he died. Just before he died in 1873, her wrote the lyrics to this song, Spancil Hill. His sweetheart stayed true to him and never married. It is my favorite Irish ballad.
