Every person I talk to on my long peloton rides seems to be a former runner. Hips, knees, and planter fasciatis have brought them to cycling. Since I am now a cardio fitness addict, it is nice to know that there is life after running.
I see people who should be running or cycling every day. I want to proselytize them with the endurance athletics doctrine. It makes me feel so good and not just the endorphins. I run into people often at work whom I see only occasionally. They usually comment on how much weight I have lost or how good I look. This just feeds the addiction. There is no way back. When I die as a runner, I become a cyclist. When I die as a cyclist, I become a swimmer.
Perhaps I should go door to door like a Jehovah's Witness missionary, urging people to get fit. Instead of a white shirt and tie, I can wear a technical T and running shorts.
The cycle today was just grand, except for my lame leadership at the front of the peloton. A light was turning red just as we got there and I decided to stop, while the group really wanted to keep going. A bit of a messy stop we had. Lights suck.
Other than that I felt great and got in 44 miles at a 17.7mph average pace. If you ever want to crosstrain via a 40 mile ride on a Saturday morning, come join me.

First: Happy B-day!
Second: How in the world do you cycle that fast? I'd love to join you, but I bust my rump to travel 14-15 mph range.
Hell, I get tired driving 40-miles and there Joe is, cycling the distance at break neck speeds!
Ok, could you please tell me what a peloton is? I looked it up in the dictionary and the closest thing is a pelota "a court game related to jai alai". Somehow I don't think that's it...
I, too, have trouble with speed on the bike. Well, it's a hybrid bike...maybe I'd be faster on a bike with skinnier tires. But then I'd be falling over all the time... maybe I should stick to running! hahahahaha
