I not only run too fast for my bodies speed limit and sometimes pay for it with an injury, but I do occasionally drive too fast as well. Seems like the gendarmerie noticed and decided to give me a ticket on the A13 on my way to Paris on Friday evening. Driving 159km/hr on a 130km/hr motorway in France is good for a 90 euro fine.
I saw the gendarmerie by the side of the road too late. They pull you over a little differently there than here. They pulled along side me and waved the radar gun at me. Then they pulled in front of me and had a programmable LED sign in their back window that read over and over again that they were the Gendarmerie Nationale --- Suivez moi. Fortunately my French is sufficient to know that Suivez moi means follow me, which I did to a rest stop. They were quite pleasant and wore matching blue gendarmerie polo shirts.
Fortunately I had the cash available and know enough French to get by or else who knows where I'd be.
I wonder if they serve wine and cheese in the French clink.
In other news, I got off the plane today and biked 11 miles at 17.7mph, followed by a trip to Boondoggles for a Talisker Scotch and a Pyramid Curveball (a Kolsch style beer). Sleep should be sound tonight. While in France, I did get in four stationary bike sessions covering 74 km and swam 300 meters in 6:45. I think my swimming is getting a little faster although it does seem to irritate my sinuses.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Mmmmm, yummy Curve ball
Love that poem! Sorry about the fine.
The sinus irritation is no doubt chlorine.
Steeeve
I get a little irritated in the pool as well. Have always chalked it up to the chemicals.
