Stunned

Elite runner and former Notre Dame standout Ryan Shay died of a heart attack during the Olympic marathon trials today. I don't know if I want to watch the half hour segment on the race at 1 pm on NBC.

If such well trained and coached athletes can have a medical condition that results in such a tragedy, what about us lesser mortals? Should we worry when our heart rate maxes out, like mine did today during a sprint on my long ride? Well I'm not going to worry about it. We all meet our maker some day. I would much rather drop dead in a race than a lot of other fates. But not at age 28 like Ryan.

I did complete my 55 mile ride today, 10 mile warmup at 16mph and 129 HR average followed by a 45 mile ride with the club at 19mph and 143 HR average.

Debuted my new Club Hypoxia jersey today. A 55 mile ride at the Tour de Donut is on tap for the morning. So I'll have a 110 mile weekend.
