Which of These Runners Is Not Like The Others?

Ryan Hall, Deena Kastor and me

If you guessed that I am the odd runner out in this picture you would be correct. Asics neglected to bring a running poster of me to autograph. Ryan and Deena on the other hand, had their posters available. I am going to give Asics a piece of my mind for letting my fans down. Ryan, Deena and I are in Colorado for the Bolder Boulder 10k, along with 53000 other participants.

What an honor to meet America's two fastest marathoners at the Boulder Running Company store today. They are as easy going and gracious as they are fast. I was certainly star struck as I went up to meet them. In retrospect, I wish I brought my race bib for them to autograph. I settled for their posters.

My first encounter was with Ryan. His poster is the famous finish picture of his from Houston. I told him I was on the course when he ran that race. He asked me if I was running on Monday and if I had run Boulder before. I said yes on both counts. Then he told me he had not seen the course yet and how was it!!!!

Talk about tongue tied, how am I in any position to comment on a course to Ryan Hall? He off centered me something fierce with that. Well I guess I mumbled something like he trains in Mammoth Lakes so the little hills and the altitude are no problem, while it is not as flat as Houston, it will still probably be a flat course for him. I also said that Pearl Street is a good time to pick it up. So if he does that on Monday and wins, remember I told him that. I did forget to comment on the undesirable amount of turns.

I then asked Deena to explain the course to Ryan since she had done it before. However, she reminded us that they have not run the same course as the non-elites in the past, so she has not seen nor knows the course at all. She said they would go have a look at it later today. This year is the first year in many that the pros will run the exact same course, but after all the non-elites clear the course.

Man I hope they both come home with medals in Beijing.

That's a Footprints picture in the BARC section. Make sure that Flicka sends it in! Please. :)

OMG...that is so cool.

Do I sound twelve? 'Cause I know I sure would have felt that way if I'd been there.

BTW- great idea to wear the costumes! Style points are the best.

Was there beer at the end? For Authenticy, you know.
