Eight Days to Liftoff

The map above is the 120 mile route over the Continental Divide in Colorado that my bike and I will attempt to conquer on July 12. The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. My bike has made it to Colorado already. I leave tomorrow. That way I would have one week to acclimatize prior to the ride which takes place between 8,000 and 12,000 feet above sea level. But no, I have to jump on a plane from Denver to London on Sunday night for work and return to Denver on Thursday evening.

A golden rule of cycling (and running) is no whining. So I won't.

Rode 50 miles on Tuesday evening, ran 1.5 miles on Wednesday, took Thursday off and rode 65 miles today. My rides were very strong, my heart rate average on todays ride was a meager 110 and the pace was 18.5mph. Nursuing a little hamstring strain, but once that is clear I am ready for anything on bike. Will ride in Colorado on Sunday to check out my bike readiness and then it is taper time to have well rested and repaired muscles on July 12.
