My mileage up and speed down plan for June has gone well. I have broken the hundred mile mark in June and have run already more than 60% more miles than May without any sign of overtraining or injury.
I am getting itchy to do some racing, but have resisted registering for a July 4th run. Last year I did the Run Wild 5k, which had nice Mexican food afterwards, catered by McCormmick & Schmicks. It is very tempting, but I want to do the Lunar Run 5k on July 15th. I don't really want to get into racing more than once per month at the moment. I need to continue to build up my long run endurance.
To give me a near term goal, I did register for the America's Finest City Half Marathon in San Diego in August. I really am excited about getting my second half marathon under my belt and, hopefully, drop my time under 2 hours. It has been so long since I ran more than 7 miles that the distance is a bit daunting to me right now, even though I have done it before. Part of the fear is that the hot summer really saps my energy after a few miles. Fortunately, San Diego weather should be more agreeable than our Houston sauna on race day.
