Mileage Up, Speed Down

Like Erin, I started my marathon training today. For June, the plan is no races and an attempt to follow directionally, but not slavishly, the Maffetone method to get an old guys's mileage up safely (and without Viagra). So I ran along Boulder Creek for about 4.5miles in 51 minutes with a positively glacial 128 average HR. If successful in training for whatever fall marathon I do, I will be around one hour behind the amazing time that Erin will post at the Chicago Marathon in October.

I was thinking of all you Houston folks getting soaked yesterday while hiking 8 miles in the dry, sunny foothills of the Rockies :P

I'm a big time believer in slowing down to get faster. Early in my all too short running carreer, I took 5 minutes off my 5K PR in just a couple months by training totally at a slower pace. There is a lot of cool info at this site. Hadd's approach to distance training. It's got a lot of great info related to aerobic base building, LT, etc. Reading some of the Maffetone method stuff reminded me of Hadd.
