Google Search Trends For Runners

If you go to www.google.com/trends, you can research into search volume by location. The top ten cities by search volume for the word "marathon" are:

1) Salt Lake City
2) Dublin
3) Boston
4) Minneapolis
5) Washington DC
6) San Diego
7) Chicago
8) Denver
9) Vienna
10) London

The top two are a surprise to me as is Vienna.

Checking "5k" you will find

1) Salt Lake City
2) Minneapolis
3) Baltimore
4) Austin
5) Raleigh
6) Columbus
7) Chicago
8) Cincinnati
9) Philadephia
10) Washington

Houston manages to crack the top ten for search volume on "running injury"

1) Austin
2) Washington
3) San Francisco
4) Seattle
5) Boston
6) Vancouver
7) Minneapolis
8) Chicago
9) New York
10) Houston

From the above, one can surmise that

a) People in Salt Lake search more for organized runs since they do not get hurt
b) People in Salt Lake do not get hurt because they search for organized runs rather than running them
c) People in Salt Lake run a lot but do not use the internet to deal with running injuries
d) People in Austin get hurt a lot in shorter runs
e) People in San Francisco and Seattle avoid organized runs in true anti-establishment spirit yet get running injuries anyways

Nothing more fun than extrapolating wildly any old statistics into conclusions. I could get a job as a staffer or a lobbiest in Washington.
