My hamstring is coming along thanks to R.I.C.E. therapy and hopefully my Irish are recovering from getting smoked. There is always the next race and the next game.
After resting Friday and Saturday, I did a 45 minue bike ride along the Boulder Creek trail and did a 30 minute easy run an hour later. The hamstring is still a little tender so I will continue to baby it. I'll be in Colorado all week, we'll see if that helps with altitude adjustment for me at next Sunday's Boulder Backroads half marathon.
I hope to copy fellow Houston Running Bloggers Sarah by getting some Indian Peaks Wilderness hiking in and Keith by running in a race with Dean Karanezes. Dean is running the Boulder Backroads marathon as part of his well publicized Endurance 50 challenge, you can read more about it in this Colorado article. Keith plans to run with him on his Texas leg, which will be a little less crowded than the 2000 half marathon and 1000 marathon racers at Backroads. Technically I will not run the same race as Dean, not only am I only going half the distance, but the marathoners start one hour before the half marathoners. I wish they did this at Houston as the starting miles are too crowded.
The article points out that Sam Thompson from Mississippi actually completed in August a similar Endurance 50 challenge (5o marathons in 50 states in 50 days). It also advises that another well known ultrarunner, Pam Reed, will be running the Backroads marathon as well. Pam's bio points out that she is a two time champion of Badwater and is the only human known to have run 300 miles straight without sleep.
