Hendrik Ramaala (center) leading Dejene Berhanu (left) and Dathan Ritzenhein (right) to a one, two, three finish at the October 1 BUPA Great North Half Marathon in Newcastle, England. They finished in 1:01:03, 1:01:22, and 1:01:25. This was Ritzenhein's half marathon race debut as he builds toward a much anticipated marathon debut in New York. Will CU alum Dathan join Meb Keflezighi, Alan Culpepper and the Hanson-Brooks runners as American challengers to men's marathon supremacy by African runners in the majors? Hanging so close to Ramaala in this half suggests that he may compete well on November 5 in New York. It's a tough challenge but elite American distance running appears heading in the right direction.
