Today is the big day for Keith to run a marathon with Dean Karnazes in Dallas as part of the Endurance 50 tour. Keith seemed concerned that Dean has been running a pace too fast for him. But I suspect they'll do 4:05 to 4:25 and that Keith will stay right there. What fun, we'll be thinking of you on the road today Keith!
Speaking of road races, the next three weekends have runs scheduled. The first is the USA 10 miler and we are expecting around 1000 runners if the weather is good. Some fast runners from out of town should be there as well, including Jacob Rotich, a Kenyan who won last year (link to last years results here). It is going to be an exciting race, the first individual race of the HARRA fall series.
The 10 miler has been circled on my calander for a long time. I can walk from my house to the start line. This race is in my backyard. It is time to protect the home court and do my best Kenyan imitation.
However, this was the first race I ever bonked in and I was (am) pissed off. The weather last year was hot and humid, it is looking a LOT nicer for this year. I ran the first half in 51 (the time it took Jacob to do the whole 10 miles) and the second half in 53:09. I want this race. Bill has asked what my time goal is. Goal number one is no bonking. Goal number two is 1:25 or better. I'll likely shoot to do the first half in 8:30 pace and then start running fast (well sort of). Then everyone I see in the last 100 yards is going to be toast and feel my breeze (well maybe). If the weather is hot and humid, I'll shoot for 9:00 pace in the first half.
Next week, on October 21, I'll be heading up to RTW for my second 5k at the Woodlands. I'll be thinking and praying for Jon when I run this. Hope to see some HRBr's up there, so check your calander!

You are a Running Jedi. 1:25 will be nothing for you. Believe it!
Hey, you're beta blogger post finally showed up in my news reader. I've been missing a lot of posts because of this beta thing.
See you at the 10-miler. Sorry you won't have a chance to pass me. Just remember, I'm behind you all the way.
Thanks Joe. I had a great day, and I feel like I put together a decent marathon after this one.
Dean : 4:12.
Keith : 4:17.
