Chicago Raises Cap and Fee
While Chicago is not in my plans for 2007, I did notice that registration for the 2007 Chicago Marathon begins on Monday, January 1. Per the linked report, the fee has been increased to $110 and the cap to 45000 participants. That is a $4.20 per mile marathon.

Look at it this way--at $25, your average 5K costs about $8/mile (even at $20, it's over $6 a mile). By comparison, Chicago is a relative bargain.
I occasionally like to think about races in terms of dollars per minute. If it's going to cost me more than $1/minute, I think twice. This is generally only an issue for 5K's, although if registration for the half had remained open through the expo (assuming I could actually run, of course), that would have been awfully close.

$110 does seem pretty excessive, though...
