As we hit the peak period of Houston Marathon training, I've been loosely following Higdon's Intermediate I program throughout. I settled on that after linking from Vic's blog a few months ago. It seems to be working fine. Thanks Vic!
Runners World called me at home about 30 minutes ago. They want me to try some marathon training books for a few weeks. Then I ante up the cash or send the books back at their cost. We are on the no call list for a reason, Runners World is getting too frilly foo foo for me. Maybe I'll let my RW subscription lapse and just focus on Running Times and ITR. Oh, I do need to subscribe to RTN for Jon's column.
I've had some serious heavy legs and sore muscles from Sunday's 30k. So I've taken it somewhat easy in great weather. I put in 7.1 miles last night in Terry Hershey Park at an average of 8:35 per mile, 140 avg HR. Oh and I got to run 1.5 miles of it with the peerless master of running, Coach Steeeve. Tonight was a heavy legged 3.3 miles at 9:08 per mile pace, with a very low 125 avg HR. These runs will help me dial in a 9 min per mile marathon pace.

Sympathizing with the heavy legs. I think I'd like to subscribe to that Marathon magazine. I forget the title. Oh, yeah, Marathon & Beyond.
Vic
I expect atleast a 8:59 pace out of you for the marathon. Just so you know.
Young Fella,
Thanks for kicking my butt, er, the run Tuesday evening. Second Vic's suggestion, Marathon & Beyond is as good as it gets.
Steeeve
The guy I ran with up at White Rock did Higdon. Except for his knee, he was strong.
I did Higdon training for NYC last year. I liked having the back-to-back hard and long run on the weekend and mostly shorter stuff during the week. It fit into my crazy grad school/family/marathon training life a little better. And it worked pretty well--for having just come off of a very long hiatus from running, I was able to start running in February (from scratch!) and do the marathon in November. Hope it works well for you.
