I've been in a prevent defensive scheme for my training the last couple days. It's all about ice, stretch, compress, elevate and cross train. Keep that clock moving and get to the start line. Run on trails rather than pavement.
As for cross training, I've done two Nordic track workouts as substitutes for two runs. Tomorrow morning I'll go for an easy 12 miler on the Seabrook trails. It's so tempting to run hard and fast, but I'd rather not give my right posterior tibial tendon any reason to complain until I'm running in or finished with the Houston Marathon. I've been training for this race since June 1.
I've already got more mileage in between Christmas and the Marathon than last year. Last year I got a total of 6 miles running in the last three weeks due to a knee injury and the flu. It was not the ideal taper. Now you know why I'm a hypersenstive hypochondriac at the moment. Scrub those hands!
It would be nice to run normal taper mileage next week. We leave for New Orleans on Monday and I've been checking out running routes. It looks like there are a couple of nice parks to run in, not to mention the roads. Looks like a great place to run.
Then again if I feel anything out of whack, I may challenge Erin to a aquarunning race in a New Orleans pool. Though she has been getting a lot of practice so she probably can actually move in a planned direction.

I think I made a rookie mistake this morning by NAILING a 12 miler. I ran pretty hard. It sure felt good and I needed the confidence builder but now, I'm like you. Nice and easy does it. Just get to the start with lotsa gas in the tank. Have a good trip to NO. Be safe.
Last time I was there, I ran out the St. Charles street car line towards Audubon Park, and that was a decent run. Of course, they hadn't even started to put the street car back on line yet, and I think I've heard it's back up and running. Still, you'll see lots of people running there between the tracks, and I think you'd enjoy the route.
As for the aqua running challenge--you're on!
