Although it has not occured lately, on occasion, our friend Sarah blogs about biting off more responsibilities and activities than there is time for. That's my week......a week of swim and bike training; spending 36 hours on planes; going to meetings and dinners; jet lag; back to the office in Houston; buying a road bike; icing my Achilles; and catching up on a zillion blogs.
OK, I'm over 50, I need to pack it all in ASAP. And I will.
Yes I bought a road bike today. My last road bike was purchased in the 70's. I am progressing back to my childhood steadily. I can't wait for the diapers again and I won't be wearing them because I'm an astronaut. But I digress, it'll be 2040 before that happens.
I went into Bike Barn, which has a sale, looking for a Raleigh 10 speed like I used to ride in 1980. They didn't have it. I settled for a Trek 27 speed instead. During the fit, we decided the 60 cm frame was too small and they are getting a 63 cm bike for me. I am one big dude.
I tried out spinning at the Memorial Athletic Club this week. I like it. Let's not talk about swimming. I am definitely not Sarah in swimming. I'd have to be able to swim. I do go from one end of the pool to the other on occasion.
Tomorrow I'm volunteering at the Galloway Gallup. I hope to see many fellow running bloggers at Cassie's wedding later in the day. I'll also work on my taxes this weekend. While I don't like paying taxes, I do love doing my tax return. It is like doing a math puzzle. Yes I know, I am seriously odd.
I don't know about this triathalon stuff. My wife's hairdresser, who is an awesome runner, said that she'd never date a triathlete since you never see them. And another friend said triathlete's are odd.
I'm only doing it because I can't run a zillion miles a week at the moment. I don't plan to go over to the dark side.

63cm? Wow, you are indeed one big dude. Congratulations on the bike puchase, it will pay big dividends especially in the summer when it's too darn hot to run.
Steeeve
It's true that to do triathlons seriously, you'll need a lot of time to train. But if you goal is to finish (which mine usually is) it can be done...
Very cool about the bike! Maybe we can go riding sometime.
my sources (mike at running fit in traverse city, mi) tell me that triathletes do really well in snowshoe races. my sources (still mike) also tell me that snowshoeing is also an awesome workout (i forget why - something about different muscle groups, core strength, and it being harder...?)
in other words, rather than becoming a weird triathlete, you could just say you're a snowshoer!
