I cut my recovery run a little short today since I picked up a groin strain in my ride yesterday. The weather was perfect and my aerobic capacity was brilliant. I did 4.2 miles in 40 minutes with a 128HR average. That is probably the lowest heart rate I have recorded while running under 10 minute miles. Cycling is good for the heart. According to my BARC buddy Veronica, runners shouldn't cycle and she's put a picture on the BARC website to prove it. We won't be adding a picture of my groin strain to my shoulder abrasion.
My completion of the LP run on Wednesday means I win a pair of socks from HARRA as an Ironfoot. I like socks. That's four consecutive HARRA series I have completed in their entirety, although I was not a HARRA member for all of the first series in fall 2005. This streak is a testament to my pigheadedness and time management as opposed to any running ability or durability.
Boston Marathon day tomorrow. I would like to qualify in 2011. Based on my 25k finish time in the fall, the VDOT predictor gives me a 3:38 marathon time. I'd need a 3:35 now and a 3:45 at the 2011 Houston Marathon.
But 25k is not a marathon and my performance rating drops the longer the distance. I have the speed but not the endurance. I'll have to lose more weight, train smart, fuel better, avoid chronic injury and get a little lucky to achieve a BQ in my lifetime. By choosing 2011 as the target, it relieves the pressure to push myself too hard in the near future......as I've found out that results in better times but at the expense of too many injuries.
I'll be so busy at work this week, I won't get much training in I think. Need to rest my niggles anyways. No running or cycling until mid-week earliest. Maybe a swim or two.
