Saved by a Spoke

I've been a bit out of sorts physically lately, perhaps recovering from the mountainous exertion of two weeks ago. Have not done any training this week, but rested up and went for some physical therapy for my leg.

Today I finally got out on the road at went on the 60 mile route with the 21mph group. Other than my bike computer working sporadically, the first 35 miles of the ride were uneventful. We rode a nice 21 to 23 mph pace with a 30mph sprint finish prior to the rest stop.

However, several of the warp speed people joined us as they had had some flats. They picked the pace up dramatically about 45 miles into the ride and ramped it up to 25 to 27mph. I started to flag. I did get to the front of the peloton and kept it at 26mph for a little while before quickly rotating out.

Then a rear spoke broke. Hallelejuiah, I had a good reason to fall of the back of the pack. Rode a little, stopped, pulled out the spoke. Rode a little more, stopped, opened up the brakes since the tire was wobbling and rubbing the brake. Rode it the final miles to Bay Area Schwinn for repair. Never broke a spoke before.

Got about 60 miles in at about an average of 18.5mph
