BARC Meeting

Well at today's club meeting we had an interesting presentation from Dr Alice May-Sexton, DC. Alice is a club member and I did not realize she was a health practitioner. She and Dr Chris Sanders provide services at the Multi Sport Health Center in Bellaire. They provide complimentary gait scan and analysis to HARRA members. She focuses on active release therapy including use of Graston technique, which I have had in the past.

I have run with Alice on occasion this year and did not know she was involved in sports medicine at all. She is such a nice person, but more than that, she came across as very knowledgeable and intelligent. I have had a fair amount of work done on my current injury and when I asked her specific questions, she had good answers. I am a sceptic with regards to my injury and its potential to be healed, but I liked her responses and advice a lot based on my own research. She also answered questions very straightforward and clearly.

So I will give them (her) a try next on my road to consistent running.

I have seen both Alice and Chris a number of times for my ITBS. They have both helped me a lot. I recommend them both for any sort of sports injury.

Graston message technique is a form of soft-tissue mobilization that detects and breaks up scar tissue that impedes normal function of muscles, fascia, tendons and ligaments. It is usually performed by a massage therapist or chiropractor, and involves the use of specialized tools that look like handlebars, a boomerang and a thick metal tongue depressor. This message technique can treat many conditions like - Tennis elbow, Back pain, Tendinitis, Sprains, etc. Visit here to read more http://alternativemedicines.tv/story_1592.html
