Riding in a 50 mile group ride the day after Christmas down to San Leon. The man next to you in the peloton is half your age. He's a nice guy. But, he has racing pants, a custom bike with his name painted on it, and is wearing a cycling cap under his helmet that says "Ohio State".
At the 30 mile point you drop him.
Would be sweeter if he cared, but since he is a nice guy, he doesn't mind. Still good for the old guy ego.
