Last night we gave out the BARC Ironfoot Awards at our club meeting. The winners got a nice big cannister of sports drink mix and a really cool singlet with the above logo on the front and back respectively. I am sooo jealous.
To encourage participation in our local and HARRA events, and to provide motivation for consistent training and competing, we introduced the first annual BARC Ironfoot Series this year. Any BARC member who is also a HARRA member and finishes all of the following races earns the prestigious BARC Ironfoot Gold award.
9/22 HARRA Cross Country Relay
9/29 R.O.C. 5K/10K Kemah Boardwalk
10/14 USA Space City 10 Miler
10/28 Koala/Luke’s Locker Half Marathon or Relay
11/11 HMSA Classical 25K or Relay
12/8 Sugar Land 30K, OR any other December race!
1/13 Chevron Houston Marathon, Half Marathon or 5K.
Complete six out of seven for a Silver Ironfoot and five out of seven for a Bronze Ironfoot. Volunteering at the ROC 5k/10k or USA Space City 10 miler can count for one race.
Fifteen obsessed BARCers and HARRA members stepped up to the challenge and earned awards for their perfomance.
Bronze award winners:
Bill Buffum
Cathy Fulford
Chris Robbins
Carwyn Sharp
Lee Anne Voorhees
Silver award winners:
Sarah Graybeal
Michael Lacy
Michelle Meyer
Margo Montgomery
Monica Montoya
Roger Redding
Gold award winners (the most obsessed runners in the club for fall 2007):
Chris Bittinger
Veronica Hoge
Jacques Smuts
Alfonso Torres
Our next competition will be a BARC 5k challenge that will promote races put on by BARC race directors and require the same sort of consistent participation as the BARC Ironfoot.
I took another baby step in my quest to be, once again, an Ironfoot. Today. 5:15am, Memorial Park loop, 3 mile felt like a tempo run 155HR avg and 8:27/mi pace.
Repeat it tomorrow. Same time, same place.
