Recovery Week Starts Right Now

I ran a half marathon distance this morning by completing two loops of the Seabrook Lucky Trails Marathon course. If Edwin does not mind me plagiarizing him, he often describes this kind of run with an "ugh". According to Answers.com, "ugh" is used to express horror, disgust or repugnance. I also like the German term "bah", which is useful to know since I'll be there for work this week.

In retrospect, maybe the run does not deserve an "ugh". I completed the run averaging 11 minute miles and a 145 average HR. This is certainly an adequate long training run for someone hoping to run a 2 hour or less half marathon race. However I did blow up after 1 hour and 45 minutes, forcing me to walk for 15 minutes and then do the Galloway 1min run/1min walk the rest of the way, completing in 2:24:11. Blowing up is an automatic "ugh" in any circumstance.

As usual the trails were busy on a Sunday morning, it was good to see Keith again. He was starting his five miler as I finished my run.

Having run 135 miles in July, I'm planning on cutting back as I get prepared for the Club Challenge 5k at RTW on August 12 and the Americas Finest City Half Marathon on August 20. The hard training is in the bank, time to recover a little and peak.

While I'd love to do that half marathon in San Diego (as I hear it is a good one and I need another state), I'll be in Parkersburg, West Virginia the day before -- in the heat and the hills -- with Cassie.

Veronica Hoge had some nice things to say about you when we were trading e-mails after she turned in her club report.
