I should buy stock in Asics, although it is only listed in Japan. If you go to the Asics corporate website, you can see in the chart below that their shoe sales have been growing quite nicely. Their earnings have been growing faster and doubled in the past year.
I was surprised to see that only 18% of their sales are in North America. They derive 49% of their revenue in Japan and 29% in Europe. However, they state that sales outside Japan are growing twice as fast as their domestic market, driven by the popularity of their running shoes and sports style shoes in North America and Europe. I am not surprised, there are people running all over town and participation appears to be still growing.
I would have liked to get more mileage on my Asics this weekend than I did. My scraped left knee, bruised left big toe, and blistered right little toe demanded a little downtime. But I did get in a 4 miler at 4:30 pm this evening in 35:40 and a 143 avg HR. It was pretty toasty but the humidity was lower than it has been.
Plan is to get a 10 mile or more run in on the Seabrook trails on Labor Day at dawn.
