Decisions, decisions

February is packed full of races and I have been procrastinating about which to run. My first objective is to get my fitness level back. Another step in that path occured Monday with a 2.9 mile Memorial loop run in 25:34 with a 146 avg HR. Tuesday was an off day and Wednesday will be a yoga session. Time to get back to a full and routine training schedule starting next week. The rest has been needed after 26.2 but I am itching to move on.

Which brings us back to the races. Last year I tended to run only one race a month and it served me well. The Buffalo Wallow 6k on February 5 sounds fun since it is a trail run and has a Masters wave. I've never done that before. February 11 has a neat looking point to point 5miler from Minute Maid Park to Hermann Park. February 18 has the Galloway Gallop 5 or 10k in my backyard, Kemah. February 25 is the Rodeo Run. Then the Race against Violence 5k on March 4 and the Bayou City Classic 10k on March 11. Finally on March 25, we come back to the first race I ever ran, the Law Week 8k, which I first did in 2005. I did not mention the Seabrook Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay on March 19. I don't want to run a half marathon in February or March.

Too many great runs I would like to do. but I do not want to burn out or risk injury. I have a hard time holding back in a race, so I do tend to push it. First of all, my main goal in the Spring will be to run my age, ie 50 minutes, in the Bolder Boulder 10k on Memorial Day. I will join the online, 10 week training program for this in March. It worked great for me in 2005, so I'll do it again.

Well, it looks like I will register for the Buffalo Wallow 6k and we'll go from there.

Good job with the Marathon. I'd like to get under 5 hrs next one. It's that last 13.1 that makes it hard. Does Yoga help your running?
