Club Trip Finalists - Vote Now

Get your votes in, we need some more votes to make the selection official!

At the last club meeting we voted on club road trip options to narrow down the selection. Please go to the official HRB club thread on the club forum for voting instructions. The 2 finalists for HRB club road trip target races are

Option 1: Mid-South Marathon and Half Marathon (Arkansas), November 4, 2006
Big Sur Marathon, April 2007

Option 2: IBM Uptown Classic 10k (Austin), October 1, 2006
Little Rock Marathon and Half Marathon, March 4, 2007

Option 1 is certainly an exciting pair of races. Steve Shephard stated that the Mid-South was the best small marathon he has run. It's a little bigger I am sure than 1999 with the rave reviews it gets. Read Steve's race report, which he kindly posted, on the forum under the Miscellaneous, Club Trip Options Posted thread. Big Sur is one of the most renowned in the country for its scenery along the Pacific Coast. The downside to Option 1 is that the Mid-South is only a week after Koala/Luke Locker Half Marathon and the cost that would be associated with a trip to Big Sur.

Option 2 is it a bit less ambitious in location, but no less ambitious for your running when coupled with the Houston Marathon warm-up series. It offers more affordability with driving trips only, so it is likely to have a larger turnout of club members. You can do the following series, really build toward two superb marathons, and likely pick up a HARRA Ironfoot award.

October 1, 2006 IBM Uptown Classic 10k (Austin)
October 15, 2006 USA 10 Miler (Clear Lake)
October 29, 2006 Koala's/Lukes Locker Half Marathon
November 19, 2006 HMSA 25k
December 10, 2006 Houstonian Lite 30k
January 14, 2007 Houston Marathon
March 4, 2007 Little Rock Marathon

Please go to the club forum and vote if you think you could make any one of the four trip possibilities with us.

Sounds like there has been a lot of good running lately, congrats to Jan for her PR, Edwin for raking in the hardware, June for racing for Clean Air, Jon for knocking off another marathon state, Keith for running over 60 days straight and if I missed you I'm a little behind on blog reviews. Good luck to those racing this weekend including James and Jacyln in the Oklahoma City Marathon and Erica in the Country Music Marathon.

I got 5.4 miles in last evening in 49 minutes with the On the Run folks. The heat is upon us.
