Faster Than A Pig (Barely)

The link "Speed of Animals" will take you to a chart of the maximum speed of various animals over a quarter mile distance.

Now if I take my 5 mile PR time this year of 37:14 and convert it to quarter mile pace at Greg McMillan's pace calculator, I learn that I should cover 400m in 1:20. That is 11.25mph.

I can out run a chicken, barely beat a pig, barely lose to a squirrel and get totally whupped by much of the animal kingdom including an elephant, a black mambo snake, a Mongolian wild ass, and a warthog. But no house mouse will catch me.

In order to overcome the stifling heat and humidity and still run to my potential, I shall visualize myself as a Mongolian wild ass as I hit the start line of tomorrow's race. My positive affirmation will be "I run like an ass, I run like an ass".
