I decided to go ride the Tour de Braz, which started in Alvin and rode through Edwin's old stomping grounds in Brazoria County. The plan was to take the 60 mile route. I did not want to spend the time nor did I feel I had the legs for another 100 miler.
Nevertheless, I did plan to jump in with some strong cyclists from the Space City Cycling Club. So this was going to be no cruise. We jumped out for the first 25 miles at about a 21mph pace in our paceline. From here the ride got interesting. The signs for the ride were not that great and we missed the turnoff on 288 South. We were in a group of about 20 cyclists and ended up going 9 miles further south, into the wind. toward Freeport than planned. We finally figured it out at 2004 and turned around.
So my 60 mile ride ended up being an 80 mile ride at an average speed of 19.4mph and an average heart rate of 145. It was hot, windy, tough.

Wow! Nothing like a pace line on Saturday morning:-)
ok, Joe...I take it all back! Cycling is hard. I can't figure out how to go faster! 17-18 mph seems to be my average. So, I guess it is easy when you're SLOW!
Help.
